The Infinite Mind, hosted by Dr. Peter Kramer, is public radio’s most honored and listened to health and science program. The national, weekly public radio series focuses on all aspects of mental health, neuroscience, access to care, treatment advances and the mind/body connection. From how drugs effect personality, to why people marry, wage war, or hoard trash, The Infinite Mind explores how the brain works, the biology behind why humans do the things they do, and the effects their actions have on society overall. The program airs in more than 240 markets across the U.S. including such Top 10 cities as New York, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Detroit, and Boston, as well as on statewide public radio networks including in Utah and West Virginia, reaching more than one million listeners weekly.  Since its premiere in 1998, the program has been honored with 30 major broadcast journalism awards, including top media honors from the United Nations, National Headliner Awards, American Women in Radio and Television (Gracie Award), Clarion Award, International Radio Awards, and leading mental health organizations including the American Psychiatric Association, the National Institute of Mental Health, National Mental Health Association and the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression.

THE INFINITE MIND EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL (beginning April 6, 2005): Hosted jointly by Dr. Fred Goodwin, our host since the program's premiere in 1998, and by our new host Dr. Peter Kramer, this retrospective features some of the best moments from The Infinite Mind's first seven years, including the Firesign Theatre on what's funny and why; top sleep researchers on how much sleep we really need; a Baptist school teacher describes her bout with hypersexuality; and fame through the ages with Howard Bloom (Alexander the Great traveled with his own publicist).  Also, batting champ Wade Boggs on the mindset it takes to hit a fastball; former hostage Terry Anderson on forgiveness; Oliver Sacks on Tourette's syndrome; managed care and suicide; Frederick Wiseman talks about his documentary on "Domestic Violence";  Suzanne Vega talks and sings about autism, and Alex, the world-famous talking parrot, speaks out on animal intelligence.

DEPRESSION IN THE BRAIN The latest research on the biology of depression including new scientific evidence that depression is a physical, medical illness that causes changes in the brain. Guests include: Dr. Robert Sapolsky, professor of biology and neurology at Stanford University; Virginia Heffernan, TV critic for Slate and contributor to the anthology "Unholy Ghost: Writers on Depression"; Dr. Ronald Duman, a neuroscientist and professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at Yale University; and singer-songwriter Dar Williams, who performs and discusses her song "After All."

FAME Few forces exert as much sway over popular culture as the power of celebrity. Where does it come from, this burning need to be known? Guests include Howard Bloom, New York University professor and author of "Global Brain: the Evolution of Mass Mind from the Big Bang to the 21st Century." Bloom has worked with Paul Simon, Talking Heads and KISS and has been called "the Darwin, Einstein, Isaac Newton, and Sigmund Freud of the 21st Century" by Britain's Channel 4 TV. Also, American Idol's Simon Cowell; The Apprentice contestant Simon Solovey; comedian Lily Tomlin; and psychologist Dr. Gene Ondrusek, who helped chose the first round of contestants on the original reality-TV show, "Survivor," discussing the price of fame and its addictive-like qualities.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Every year, over one million women are battered by someone they know. It's a crime, and for too many Americans, it's also a fact of daily life. Guests include domestic violence survivors and former batterers; filmmaker Frederick Wiseman, discussing his most recent documentary films "Domestic Violence" and "Domestic Violence II"; Dr. Judith Herman, professor of clinical psychiatry at Harvard University Medical School; Ms. Clare Dalton, professor of law at Northeastern University and executive director of the Domestic Violence Institute at Northeastern University School of Law; singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega, performing and discussing her song "Luka" which put domestic violence on the top ten charts; and Dr. Edward Gondolf, professor of sociology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and research director of the Mid-Atlantic Addiction Training Institute.

Winner of 2004 Gracie Award from the American Women in Radio and Television.
