Special One-Hour Public Radio Program
Explores Mental Health Impact Of 9/11
"A NEW NORMAL?", a special presentation of Lichtenstein Creative Media's award-winning public radio series The Infinite Mind will air at [TIME AND DATE] on [YOUR LOCAL PUBLIC RADIO STATION]. The show will explore the psychological effects of living with the ongoing threat of terrorist attacks.
We all talk about "getting back to normal," but perhaps this is it. As FDR said, "The only thing we have to fear
is fear itself." This special program will explore what we all can do to cope with our inner uncertainty, and, perhaps, strike a blow against terrorism in the process. The program will also look at how the nation's mental health system is coping with this national crisis.
[OPTIONAL:] Following the broadcast, you can hear [LOCAL EXPERTS, MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS] discuss the impact of September 11th, and its aftermath, on the mental health situation in the [YOUR REGION] area.
Guests on The Infinite Mind include: psychiatrist Dr. Robert Ursano, an expert in the psychological impact of disaster; Mary Guardino, founder and executive director of the national advocacy organization Freedom from Fear; filmmaker Avner Tavori, who lived much of his life in war-torn Israel; National Mental Health Association executive vice president Cynthia Folcarelli; Dr. Russell Newman of the American Psychological Association; and Giselle Stolper, executive director of the Mental Health Association of New York City.
The program offers both personal and societal perspectives on the impact of living in a world in which terror is increasingly a driving and unfortunate force. The show explores how individuals can best cope within a society plagued with fear. The program also includes interviews with experts on what communities can do to address the growing mental health concerns following September 11th and to plan for the future.
A New "Normal?" was produced by Lichtenstein Creative Media, Inc., a Peabody Award-winning media company focusing on mental health and social justice issues, with the assistance of the National Mental Health Association.
